Although I love color, working in the monochromatic medium of charcoal best enables me to express the emotion and light I find so compelling in my subjects. When color is absent, we see things in a different context which opens us up to the possibility of making new discoveries. We develop a new appreciation for the nuances of tone and structure and can more readily appreciate subtle emotions. My realistically rendered portraits of people, places and objects, hopefully, provide unexpected, enriching and thought-provoking experiences.
